Well, we finished the video today! It was really heartwarming at
the end, when John goes to the airport and meets his mom and sister for the
first time in 17 years! It was really cool, and a bit funny to see John's mom
doing a traditional dance to celebrate happiness. She was shrieking! John isn’t
sure if his mom is there to live, or there for a visit, but either way he is
happy, and so are his mom and his sister, and I was close to tears, because it
was amazing to watch John grow from a lost boy in Sudan Africa, to a community
leader in Syracuse NY, have brought his family to the states, and has earned
his bachelor’s degree. As for Panther and Daniel, their situations are a bit different.
Panther discovered that he has family, so he decides to return to Africa to set
up school there for the children as he has also gotten his bachelor’s degree. Daniel has not found any family members, and
has been in the US for 3 years now. He will not give up though, he realizes
there is a chance that there are none of his family members left, but there is
as good a chance that there are.
MY IDEA; My idea is that right around Christmas time, where we (as
Americans) celebrate God/ Christ, but also the spirit of St. Nick and receiving
presents. As we learned in the video, in Sudan they don’t give presents and
they don’t celebrate St. Nick. I think
around Christmas time, we should sent over care packages including medicine needs
(ACE bandages, pain relievers, and some games (cards ect.) this way we would be
showing them some of how our Christmas is, and still respecting their
traditions.
