Sudan Civil War


The Second Sudanese Civil war was..
·         from 1983-2005
·         a disagreement between the central Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army
·         more than 2 million people died from the war
o   due to starvation, disease and drought
·         4 million people in Southern Sudan had been displaced at least once during the war
·         The official ending of the war was with the signing of a peace agreement (January 2005)
·         The civilian death toll is one of the highest of any war since World War II
·         Location-  Blue Nile, Nuba Mountains, Southern Sudan
·         Results-
o   Peace agreement
o   Independence of the Republic of South Sudan
·         Armies from all sides enlisted children
·         Tanks, aircrafts, artillery were used (dominated until the late 1980’s)
·         The Sudan army grew from 18,000to 50,000 men
·         The People’s republic of china was the main supplier of weapons in the late 1970’s
·         Egypt was the most important military partner in the 1970’s (missiles ect.)
